About us

Karin Bettin

It is not just the words that count. It is also important to strike the right note.

For me, the challenge when interpreting involves much more than conveying a complex subject matter in a different language and culture. Often it is the nuances of meaning – such as occur in controversial discussions – that call for high linguistic skills and an instinctive ability on the part of the interpreter. This aspect of the job is very important for me.

Curiosity for serious subjects really means having a thirst for knowledge. And this always opens up new horizons.

For me interpreting has always meant a curiosity for other things – and this is also useful when rendering subject material into another language. Interpreters are extremely lucky in having the opportunity to be involved with an incredible number of different topics. It might be mineshafts, bicycle gearshifts, art as an investment, stage lighting or big data, the more I become familiar with a new theme – for that is after all the bedrock of professional interpreting – the more I am fascinated by it.
